Who is this W9LW, anyway?

W9LW is my FCC-assigned, amateur (ham) radio call sign. I'm Jay Farlow and I've been a ham since 1973. I've been a volunteer storm spotter for the National Weather Service SKYWARN program since the 1970s. I've also been a volunteer EMT and firefighter and member of a disaster medical assistance team. I served on the leadership team of Associated Churches Active in Disaster, a ministry of Associate Churches of Fort Wayne and Allen County. I'm a former broadcast journalist. A funnel cloud look-alike seen from northeastern Fort Wayne. (W9LW photo)No, it's not a funnel cloud! The header image on this blog comes from a photo W9LW shot in March of 2013 in northeastern Fort Wayne. He knew that untrained observers might incorrectly identify the tilted rain shaft as a funnel cloud, so he snapped the photo for educational purposes.
