NWS survey team finds only straight-line wind damage in St. Joseph County, Ind.

...UPDATE #2 ON NWS DAMAGE SURVEYS...

THE DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN
INDIANA HAS DETERMINED THAT THE DAMAGE IN ST JOSEPH COUNTY IN
NORTHWEST INDIANA WAS CAUSED BY STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORTHERN INDIANA DISPATCHED A
DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM THIS MORNING TO PORTIONS OF ELKHART COUNTY. THIS
DAMAGE WAS DETERMINED TO BE CAUSED BY STRAIGHT LINE WINDS.

THIS DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM IS CURRENTLY CONTINUING INTO PORTIONS OF LA
PORTE COUNTY IN NORTHWEST INDIANA TO SURVEY ADDITIONAL DAMAGE.

ANOTHER DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM HAS BEEN DISPATCHED TO LAGRANGE COUNTY
THIS AFTERNOON TO SURVEY DAMAGE IN SEVERAL AREAS.

DETAILS AND FINDINGS FROM THESE SURVEYS WILL BE RELEASED IN THE
FORM OF A PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT (PNSIWX) AS THEY BECOME
AVAILABLE LATER TODAY OR THIS EVENING.

WE HAVE BEEN COORDINATING WITH LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IN OTHER
COUNTIES ACROSS THE AREA. AT THIS TIME WIDESPREAD TREE DAMAGE AND
SPORADIC PROPERTY DAMAGE APPEARS TO BE CAUSED BY STRAIGHT LINE
WINDS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH IN SOME LOCATIONS. THIS INFORMATION IS
PRELIMINARY AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
